Majority of Americans say healthcare reform won't help them find coveragePosted On Tue, August 30, 2011
As federal and state officials continue to create the various parts of the government's healthcare reform law, a new poll finds that the majority of Americans don't think it will help them find affordable health insurance quotes.
The August Kaiser Health Tracking Poll finds just 31 percent of people think the new law will help them find coverage. Fourteen percent say the regulations will hurt them by requiring them to buy a plan they may not be able to afford. The remaining 55 percent were either unsure or declined to answer.
The poll also found the majority of Americans remain opposed to the current law. Just 39 percent have a positive view of the rules, while 44 percent see it in a negative light.
The results of the survey show a continued lack of knowledge about the bill, as 47 percent of uninsured respondents said the bill likely won't affect them at all.
Among the various proposals included in the bill is an individual mandate that would require everyone to have healthcare. That provision of the law is currently being challenged in court.
