Maine residents concerned over health insurance ratesPosted On Tue, August 30, 2011
A new survey of residents in Maine finds many of them remain signficantly concerned about maintaining their health insurance coverage and paying their medical bills.
The poll, conducted by Market Desicions, found 26 percent of residents 18 and older has trouble paying their medical costs over the past 12 months. That ratio is up from 22 percent last year.
In addition, 26 percent of people also said they had put off taking advantage of health insurance quotes because of their perceived cost. Of those participating in MaineCare - the state's Medicaid Program - the majority are worries about losing their coverage.
Twelve percent of respondents said they had no health insurance. Of those people, 48 percent said they had lost their health insurance when they or another family member had lost their job.
More people may be looking for health insurance rates themselves in the coming years as the government healthcare program is rolled out. Many employers have said they will drop their coverage when the new health insurance exchanges are created.
