Life insurance policies a good investment even as life spans lengthen

Posted On Wed, August 19, 2009

New government statistics show that Americans are living longer than ever, but this doesn't minimize the importance of investing in a good life insurance policy.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the average American life expectancy now stands at 77.9 years. The CDC based its information on data from about 90 percent of the death certificates in the country.

The increasing nationwide lifespan is actually part of an ongoing trend that has seen an increase of 1.4 years since 1997.

The CDC also reported that males live for an average of 75.3 years while females have an average lifespan of 80.3 years. The nation's mortality rate now stands at 760.3 deaths per 100,000 population, which is said to be a 2.1 percent drop from 2006.

Heart disease and cancer were said to account for nearly half of all deaths in the United States in 2007. With such statistics in mind, life insurance is often a good investment for those who want to guarantee the long-term stability of their families.
