Less than half of U.S. states prepared for climate change issuesPosted On Tue, April 10, 2012
Continued climate change issues are not being addressed by a majority of states, and this leaves many areas open to water-related disasters, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council.
A total of 29 states are prepared to deal with water-related disasters, which could hurt citizens as well as the local economy. In addition, only nine states have enacted measures to ensure they are prepared for such disasters. Some of the most prepared states are California, New York and Wisconsin, while some of the least prepared states are Florida, Ohio, Virginia and New Mexico.
"Rising temperatures and more extreme weather events are impacting our families, our health and our pocketbooks," said Steve Fleischli, director of the Water & Climate Program for NRDC. "Water is a matter of survival. It powers our lives and industries, and it keeps our natural systems healthy."
Homeowners should not only be sure that they have disaster insurance, but may also benefit from being certain that their standard insurance policy is sufficient. Comparing home insurance quotes may help a person achieve this.]]>
