Kidney illness may be connected to hearing issuesPosted On Fri, March 9, 2012
The Better Hearing Institute recently released a report which urged consumers with chronic kidney disease to get their hearing examined regularly, due to the connection between the two illnesses.
Hearing loss may have a strong link to CKD, as a report from the National Kidney Foundation noted that a study found more than half of CKD sufferers witnessed hearing loss issues, compared to only 28 percent of those who did not have the issue.
"Unaddressed hearing loss can have very significant consequences on a person's day-to-day living and greatly undermine quality of life," said Dr. Sergei Kochkin, BHI's executive director. "We need to include hearing screenings as a routine part of the medical care for people with kidney disease to help optimize their quality of life."
Consumers with a chronic issue may already be spending a large amount on healthcare bills. With this in mind, it may be a smart idea to compare health insurance rates in order to find a plan that is less expensive and still has strong coverage.
