Insurer warns consumers about accidents involving deerPosted On Tue, October 11, 2011
A recent report from Fremont Insurance warned consumers of the dangers of car collisions involving deer.
With many car accidents involving deer, many are not reported, but in the state of Michigan alone, there were nearly 56,000 vehicles involved in a crash with the animals in 2010. During that year, 11 people died and more than 1,270 people were injured in these types of accidents.
Fremont stressed that drivers should ensure they are awake and sober when driving, and to be aware that these crashes can happen at any time. They are more likely to happen during the spring or fall and at dusk and dawn.
"Deer hunting season in Michigan is among our most widely observed outdoor traditions," said Kurt Dettmer, vice president of marketing for Fremont Insurance. "Deer are an important resource for the state. At the same time, between expanding populations and the encroachment of humans into the deer's natural habitat, they've become a serious safety hazard for Michigan drivers."
Consumers may want to ensure that their policy covers deer-related accidents. If it doesn't, it may be a good time to explore various car insurance quotes with comprehensive and collision coverage included.
