Insurance quote retrieval could be easier on insurers' websites, according to J.D. Power poll

The results of a new poll suggest that many Americans prefer to shop for insurance quotes from a website that specializes in this rather than shopping for rates with an insurance company directly.

According to the survey, which was conducted by global marketing information services company J.D. Power and Associates, researchers took a multitude of factors into account when assessing customers' perceived ability to shop for quotes with a company when perusing the insurer's website, such as what the requesting process entailed, the ease with which they could find information, locating discount information as well as details on how they could get in contact with the company's headquarters.

Grading the ease of these tasks on a scale of one to five - with one being "very difficult" and five being "very easy" - the survey indicated that customers found finding policy information and requesting a quote as being the hardest to perform, averaging scores of 3.6 and 3.8, respectively.

One in every two insurance customers inquires about coverage through web
Jeremy Bowler, senior director of the global insurance practice at J.D. Power, said that these are findings that insurers need to take into account, as the internet is a major resource customers use to glean coverage information.

"More than one-half of all insurance shoppers today use the web to scout their options, and many further seek to obtain quotes online," said Bowler. "Since policy shopping frequently includes the tasks of finding policy information and requesting a quote, it is understandable that customers who did not find those tasks to be particularly easy tend to abandon one brand in favor of others, often providing a low rating for that site."

He added that what customers did find to be relatively easy was locating the information they needed to contact the insurer directly. Conceivably, many of those who find these details could very well obtain quote information through alternative means, such as by calling an insurer's customer service hotline. sets industry standard
While there may be a variety of insurance quote comparison websites to choose from, consumers would be hard pressed to find one that's more user-friendly than By simply typing in the zip code of where they live and then selecting the type of coverage they're looking for from the dropdown bar, policyholders will be able to see various premium estimates from some of the nation's top companies. And there are multiple types to choose from, including auto, health, home, life, annuities and business.

In addition, because accuracy is crucial, asks users for certain specifics as it pertains to the coverage they're seeking. For example, if shopping for auto insurance rates, some of the things to fill out include the year of the vehicle that's being insured, its make as well as its model. All of these components affect what customers can expect to pay.

Customers can determine what savings they may qualify for
But customers can take heart in the fact that insurers are keen on providing discounts to customers as well. As such, provides for this. For instance, if a customer is a student and has a grade point average of 3.0 or better, they can account for this and the appropriate discount will be applied.

Customers can rest assured that the information they provide are for only used for their benefit. In other words, the details they have about the car their insuring will be kept safe and secure and are used exclusively to connect them with agents who can make coverage available to them for an affordable price.
