Insurance industry conference examines future of sectorPosted On Mon, July 30, 2012
Insurance executives from around the country recently came together for a conference in California, where they discussed the future of the business and likely discussed changing insurance quotes.
The Insurance Journal reports that hundreds from the sector gathered for the Western States Surplus Lines Conference 2012 at the St. Regis Monarch Beach in California. After a number of disasters affected the industry in 2011, many were looking for insight into what the rest of what 2012 would bring. One of the speakers was Thomas Holzheu, chief economist for North America at Swiss Re, who said that risks for the industry included oil prices, problems in China and the political climate in the United States and Europe.
"The system must always be on the brink of the abyss to keep the reforms going," he said, according to the source. "That's why we will be dealing with the Euro crisis for many years."
Other industry groups have announced plans to host conferences in the future. In one recent announcement, the Insurance Accounting & Systems Association said it was accepting applications for the 2013 IASA Annual Educational Conference and Business Show. The deadline for submissions is August 31, 2012.
