Insurance experts urge homeowners to review insurance policies in JunePosted On Mon, June 20, 2011
A California-based insurance consulting firm is urging policyholders to review their home insurance plans so they know what things are and aren't covered.
"I’ve discovered that many people are unaware that their home or rental property is not protected by their basic insurance policy and that they may be exposed to personal liability issues," said Kerry Tuma, with eIndividualHealth.com. "Since June is National Home Safety Month, this is a great time to review your personal home or rental insurance lines to make sure your coverage is adequate."
The firm goes on to state that some home insurance plans may have certain provisions that require additional or special coverage, such as trampolines or pets.
In addition to reviewing one's policy, the organization also suggests enhancing the safety of one's home by performing a safety check. This includes making sure all appliances are grounded and that every floor of a home has working fire alarm.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, 3,000 people die per year in house fires.
