Increase in Thanksgiving road travel predictedPosted On Thu, November 18, 2010
AAA car insurance is predicting an upswing in holiday travel this Thanksgiving. The company estimates an increase in travel from last year of more than 11 percent.
AAA president and CEO Robert Darbelnet says a sluggish economy isn't going to stop people's plans this year.
"While Americans remain cautious with household budgets and discretionary spending amidst high levels of unemployment, many are in a better financial position this Thanksgiving than a year ago," says Darbelent.
Along with what one can expect to be more traffic, it's important for motorists to execute extreme caution while on the roads. The extra travelers can increase one's chances of being involved in a motor vehicle accident. This holds especially true when a fair number of drivers have been partaking in holiday festivities.
As always, it's important for drivers to limit distractions and to pay close attention to the road. However, such advice should be taken to heart even more during the holiday season. Vehicle occupants should all wear a seatbelt, which is their best defense in the event of an accident.
