Important to stop water damage before it startsPosted On Mon, January 23, 2012
When dealing with cold weather, it is a good idea for homeowners to go out of their way to prevent large-scale water damage to their home, according to a report from home insurance company PEMCO.
It is important to get rid of snow in areas around the home where it could be at risk of leaking into the home, the report said. In, addition, gutters and drains around the base of the home should be cleared. Ground-level snow should also be cleared in a way so that it is not going to melt toward the home.
"Although this storm was relatively mild compared to years past, homeowners can take simple steps to avoid water damage and expensive repairs," said Jon Osterberg, spokesperson for PEMCO Insurance, who referenced a recent storm in the Pacific Northwest. "You also should know what's covered by your insurance policy."
If consumers are unsure what their home insurance policy covers, it is important to examine it. If the plan does not cover what a homeowner is comfortable with, it may be a good idea to explore home insurance quotes.
