Important to drive safe during tricky summer travelPosted On Tue, June 12, 2012
A joint announcement from The Weather Channel and Michelin encouraged American drivers to keep in mind how busy roads and storms in the summer can be difficult to navigate, as well as how important it is to ensure their vehicle is prepared for these situations.
The report stressed that it is important to ensure that a vehicle's tires are inflated properly, as under-inflated tires can damage the tires over time. In addition, keeping tire pressure at the correct level will improve overall fuel efficiency. Also, rotating tires every 6,000 to 8,000 miles will help the tires last longer.
"Choosing the right tires and maintaining them throughout their lives is essential to driving safely in normal weather conditions, but it becomes even more important in inclement weather," said Don Byrd, vice president of marketing for Michelin's passenger light-truck division.
While drivers should prepare the hardware on their vehicles for inclement weather and busy roads, it is also important to make sure they have sufficient insurance coverage in case of the unexpected. By looking for a plan with low auto insurance rates, the plan could be strong and affordable.
