IIHS says 13 of this year's models deemed worthy of new safety awardPosted On Fri, January 4, 2013
Just in time for the new year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has released its list for the safest 2013 models that are available for motorists.
According to the IIHS, 13 cars have been given the safety agency's new Top Safety Pick+ distinction, which is awarded to vehicles that pass crash safety tests with flying colors. More specifically, they must earn a "good" rating in four of the five crash test evaluations, which include frontal crash, small overlap frontal crash, side impact. Vehicles must receive no less than an "acceptable" grade for the fifth assessment. The worst grades to receive are "poor" and "marginal."
IIHS notes that 117 additional cars received its Top Safety Pick designation, which requires vehicles to have good ratings for frontal, side impact and rear tests. Unlike the Top Safety Pick+ distinction, however, it doesn't take into account their small overlap rating.
The full list can be viewed at IIHS website.
Prospective carbuyers may want to give the list a thorough review, as they may be able to find cheap insurance quotes for many of these vehicles.
