Hurricanes hit U.S., Northeast hard in late summerPosted On Fri, September 30, 2011
A recent study found that 4 percent of U.S. homeowners, as well as 12 percent of those living in the Northeast received damage from Tropical Storm Lee and Hurricane Irene in late August and early September.
Only 2 percent of Americans called in a claim to their home insurance company in the wake of the storm. However, 6 percent of homeowners in the Northeast have already filed, as well, the study noted. In total, only 12 percent of Northeast residents reported ever filing a claim before.
Overall, 8 percent of all Americans have filed a home insurance claim due to a storm, such as a hurricane, according to the study. Nearly 15 percent of this group lives in the South. Currently 25 percent of Americans think positively of insurance companies, but only 8 percent feel negatively toward these organizations.
If a person has a damaged home and finds out that their company will not cover all of the expenses, it may be a smart plan to look at other home insurance quotes to see what improved coverage plans are available.
