How to make filing an insurance claim an easy processPosted On Mon, January 17, 2011
It's not universal, but homeowners insurance policies cover most damage that results from weather's wrath. And a high time for weather-related insurance claims is the wintertime. While homeowners insurance provides people with peace of mind that their home will be covered should it be damaged, filing a claim can seem like a real pain.
With this in mind, the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America wants to arm customers with the tools they need to make filing a claim a breeze.
"Winter storms can cause significant damage and insurers are ready to work with consumers to minimize the inconveniences and help make the claims process go as smoothly as possible," said Frank O'Brien, the vice president of state government relations for PCI.
If a home is damaged, PCI suggests filing the claim as soon as possible rather than waiting a day or two. If there's a problem the homeowners can fix themselves, they should keep the receipts and the insurance company will issue a reimbursement. Also, homeowners should meet with their insurance adjuster, and ask him or her what their deductible options are in order to get the best deal.
Keying in on customer satisfaction, insurance providers everywhere are doing what they can to keep filing a claim as streamlined a process as possible.
