Honda makes most stolen vehicle in countryPosted On Fri, April 15, 2011
Over the past couple of years, sales have generally been good for the Honda Motor Company. Just this past month, for example, sales increased nearly 19 percent, marking the sixth straight month that the company posted a double-digit rise in units sold.
But with more Hondas on the road, car thieves have had a greater opportunity to steal them.
According to a report recently released by LoJack, for the second straight year, Honda makes the most stolen vehicle of all foreign models. In fact, two of Honda's models - the Accord and Civic - were the cars most favored by thieves.
Other foreign models frequently pilfered by crooks were the Toyota Camry and Acura Integra.
GM cars were the most stolen domestic models, according to the report.
Patrick Clancy, vice president of law enforcement for LoJack, said vehicles recoveries were hard to come by in 2010.
"Across the country, an astounding 43.2 percent of stolen vehicles were not recovered," Clancy said. "What this tells us is that today's sophisticated theives are getting around different means of protection."
Auto insurance policies cover vehicle thefts, but they're usually covered under a policy's comprehensive plan, which is optional.
