Homeowners need to keep inventory data accuratePosted On Tue, December 28, 2010
It's crucial for people to take proper inventory of their belongings should they need to file a home insurance claim.
No one likes to think of their home as being ruined in a fire or snow storm, however that is exactly the reality some families are forced to deal with every day. Given the potential for having to file a claim, it's important for people to be as prepared as possible.
KC Home inventory founder Rick Bell says it's important for home owners to properly note all of their belongings.
"If insurance companies don't have a professionally prepared inventory, and, more specifically one that's up to date, compensation will weigh in on the conservative side," says Bell. "Insurance companies can and do deny claims if there's no proof to support what's been lost, damaged or stolen."
It's also important for homeowners to know exactly what will and won't be covered by their policy. It's not uncommon for people to think certain types of damage will be covered by their policy only to realize they were wrong at the time of filing.
