Home inventory comes to the iPhonePosted On Thu, March 10, 2011
Performing a home inventory just got a little easier.
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners has joined the "app" universe and is offering iPhone users a feature to install on their mobile device that will give them a better idea of what valuables they own so that the items can be accounted for when deciding how much home insurance to buy.
"A home inventory assures you know exactly what you own, and what it is worth, before you need to make a claim," said Susan Voss, NAIC president. "Our research, however, suggests almost half of all Americans don't have an inventory of their possessions. Our new iPhone app makes it easy to document your stuff. Knowing what you own will help you choose the right coverage in the first place."
And what people spend on "stuff" in a given year can be pretty significant, especially if it's technology related. According to an American Express survey, people spend an average of $1,300 annually on things like computers, video games and televisions.
NAIC's app - the "MyHome Scr.APP.book" - is available for free through the iTunes store.
