Holiday travel expected to be high for ThanksgivingPosted On Mon, November 21, 2011
A recent prediction from AAA shows many consumers will be hitting the roads and taking to the air for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
In Arizona alone, nearly 840,000 consumers will travel during the period, which is a 4.6 percent jump over last year's figures. Overall, 42.5 million Americans will travel during the weekend, which is approximately 4 percent higher than last year.
"The increase we're expecting tells us that consumers chose family over frugality when making their Thanksgiving travel decisions," said Amy Moreno, director of travel services for AAA Arizona.
More than seven in 10 Americans plan to have dinner with their families, while more than two-thirds noted their trips are to visit friends or family members. In addition, nearly half will go shopping, 43 percent will participate in touristy activities and more than one-quarter will head to the beach.
Consumers thinking about making the trek may want to take extra caution on the roads, as the high traffic volume could mean more accidents. To ensure that a consumer's car is sufficiently covered, it could be a good plan to explore auto insurance rates online.
