Help quitting smoking just a phone call awayPosted On Thu, December 30, 2010
Many people try to quit smoking every year, but the task is difficult due to the addictive nature of nicotine.
There are a variety of tools people can use to help them stop smoking. Most drugstores sell special chewing gum or patches designed to aid people trying to give up tobacco products.
Kansas residents can also use the Kansas Tobacco Quitline operated by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for extra support during their journey. The Quitline features a coach who can provide customized assistance.
KDHE director of health Dr. Jason Eberhart-Phillips says people shouldn't give up in their quest to quit smoking if they've been unsuccessful in the past.
"No matter how long you have been smoking, no matter how difficult it has been for you to quit before, you can break free from your addiction to tobacco," says Eberhart-Phillips. "You can definitely do this, and the Quitline is here to help."
Those who quit smoking will improve their health and are likely to see better life insurance premiums as a result. Costs savings will also be realized by consumers when they are no longer shelling out nearly $5 a pack.
