Healthcare costs increased to end 2011

Posted On Sun, February 19, 2012

S&P Indices recently released a report showing that healthcare costs rose during December when compared with the year before.

The S&P Economic Healthcare Indices for December showed that the Healthcare Economic Composite Index which shows the average per capita cost of healthcare for commercial and Medicare plans increased by 5.28 percent year-over-year. The Commercial Index increased 7.11 percent compared to the same point in 2010, while Medicare's gauge increased by 2.51 percent.

"After November's deceleration, healthcare costs annual growth rates bounced back in December," says David Blitzer, chairman of the Index Committee at S&P Indices. "Since the end of the summer we have generally seen increasing annual growth rates, particularly with healthcare costs covered by commercial plans."

Consumers who are worried about the continually increasing healthcare costs now may want to try to lock in a plan that has affordable costs. By comparing health insurance rates, it may be easier to accomplish this task, as there are a plethora of health insurance quotes available.
