Healthcare costs grow at slower rates in January

Posted On Mon, March 26, 2012

A report from S&P Indices showed that healthcare cost growth rates declined slightly in January when compared to December's figures.

The firm's Healthcare Economic Index showed that the cost of per capita healthcare services cost witnessed an average increase of 5.21 percent compared to the same point in 2011. This was slightly lower than the 5.3 percent recorded during December. In addition, the Healthcare Economic Commercial Index increased 7.05 percent, which was a slight drop from December's figure of 7.11 percent.

"Healthcare costs' annual growth rates decelerated modestly in January," says David Blitzer, chairman of the index committee at S&P Indices. "The fall and early winter of 2011 was highlighted by a general upward trend in healthcare costs, as measured by annual rates of change."

Those who need a healthcare plan may want to take advantage of a policy now, as these rates have a direct effect on total insurance costs. By comparing health insurance quotes, a consumer may find exactly what they need.
