Health insurance law validated by appeals court

Posted On Mon, November 14, 2011

A recent decision from the third appeals court upheld previous decision from the Washington D.C. U.S. District Court that kept the Affordable Care Act valid.

The decision was split two to one, which turned down the lawsuit from a Christian legal group. The suit was interested in overturning the legislation on the grounds that it was unconstitutional and an infringement upon religious freedom, the news source reported. This is considered a significant victory for the legislation, which may still be heard by the Supreme Court.

"Appellants do not question that Congress can regulate the interstate health care and health insurance markets, or that Congress reasonably could conclude that decisions about whether to purchase health insurance substantially affect interstate commerce," wrote Judge Laurence Silberman, the writer of the majority opinion, according to the news source.

Consumers who are concerned about the changes to health insurance may want to do what they can to get their situation straightened out. It could be a good idea to compare health insurance rates to find the coverage with the best value.
