Health care aid in serious troublePosted On Mon, June 21, 2010
There is an inherent problem with the overhaul of the American health care system, which will take full effect in 2014.
The looming possibility of a health care crisis before that time has grown in the three months since the bill was signed, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times. The report said that many state governments across the country are facing budget crises, and considering cutting medical aid for poor families despite the promise of more federal dollars.
Worse, the number of unemployed in the country is expected to increase in the coming months, and those who have used federal help to keep their insurance will soon lose it, the paper said. Some employers are even looking to scale back benefits as the price of covering each employee rises. Many insurance companies are implementing rate hikes that reach into the double digits.
A new report from USA Today said that the number of uninsured Americans climbed 2.9 million in 2009 from the previous year to 46.3 million. That number will only grow in the coming months.
