Hangovers contribute to auto insurance, safety woesPosted On Thu, December 24, 2009
Public safety officials have long fought against the problem of drunken driving because of the thousands of lives it takes each year, while also causing millions of dollars in property damage and contributing to higher auto insurance rates.
In fact, all 50 states have generally toughened penalties against drunken drivers in recent years, while also implementing a national standard where people with a .08 blood alcohol level are considered to be legally impaired.
Still, people may not realize that even hours after they have finished drinking, they may still be unsuitable to drive.
This comes in light of a report by Reuters Health which cited a Brown University study finding that people with hangovers remain impaired for driving the morning after drinking, with slower reaction times and difficulty concentrating.
For people who are concerned about their safety and about holding down auto insurance rates that can be dramatically increased after even a minor accident, this is one more thing to remember before getting behind the wheel.
