Grants distributed to encourage safer driving habitsPosted On Wed, January 11, 2012
A recent project created by the National Youth Leadership Council and auto insurance company State Farm gave grants to 25 high schools in North America to promote safe driving.
The grants, which were $2,000 each, will be used to improve the overall driver safety education in those schools, according to the release. More teens are killed in automobile accidents than any other situation in the United States.
"Young people have unique capacity to influence their peers' behaviors," said Kelita Svoboda Bak, chief executive officer of the National Youth Leadership Council. "Especially when supported by adult allies, students can save lives by changing practices such as seat-belt use or the decision to not drive under the influence."
The program will allow for 10 of the involved schools to be in line for further funding, the report added. This will help spur more intensive safety campaigns in those school systems.
Parents who want to ease their worries about their child's safety on the roads may benefit from exploring auto insurance quotes. A sufficient insurance plan could protect a parent's wallet in case their child gets into an accident.
