Healthy habits are often picked up in childhood, which is why it's important for youth to learn which foods are best eaten sparingly. Establishing a proper lifestyle can ultimately lead to lower health and life insurance premiums during one's later years.
Music-based health education company Nutrition in Action is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Partnering with MyPyramid Corporate program. The initiative aims to engage children by featuring musicians authors.
Nutrition in Action CEO Jenny Steinhaus says it's important to offer diet educational materials, especially when there is a desire for more literature on the topic.
"With a renewed interest in family meal time, reducing obesity rates, feeding our children healthfully, and increasing physical activity, there is a significant opportunity for educators to provide this innovative nutrition education to our nation's youth," says Steinhaus.
Numerous studies have indicated that low-income families struggle more than their wealthier counterparts to consumer healthier food options, such as fruits and vegetables. Such items can be more affordable if purchased on sale and some farmers' markets offer lower prices.
