General Motors has prosperous JunePosted On Tue, July 5, 2011
General Motors had a prosperous month of June and it was fueled by surge in fuel-efficient cars, according to a recently released report from the American auto manufacturer.
In a recent release, GM stated the company sold more than 215,000 cars in June, an 11 percent increase when compared to the same month in 2010. Despite the average price of gas trickling downward, it didn't drop enough for people to stop purchasing fuel-sipping vehicles, as General Motors' GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox saw retail sales jump a combined 78 percent. Both vehicles get an EPA-rated 32 miles per gallon, according to automaker.
"With continued strong consumer demand for GM's fuel-efficient vehicles, June was another solid month for us," said Don Johnson, vice president of sales and operations. The month caps a successful first half of 2011 for us in the U.S. market - our sales are up and we've gained share profitably."
Through the first half of 2011, GM says the company has moved 1.5 million units - an increase of nearly 195,000 compared to the same span in 2010.
With more GMs on the road, auto insurance companies have likely written out more policies for General Motors models.
