Fort Collins, Colorado named safest driving cityPosted On Wed, September 8, 2010
There are a number of factors that can drive a person's car insurance premiums upwards or downwards. Those who have clean driving records and house their vehicles in low-crime neighborhoods typically receive lower auto insurance rates.
There is a good chance that those in Fort Collins, Colorado, may also have decent rates on their insurance, since a major auto insurance company recently named the city the safest to drive in, according to claim statistics.
The claim data found the average Fort Collins motorist will be involved in a motor vehicle accident once every 14.5 years. Fort Collins mayor Doug Hutchinson says he is pleased by the city's new title.
"Once again, the people of Fort Collins have made me proud to live in this community," said Hutchinson. "Becoming America's safest driving city takes quality roads and infrastructure. But more than anything else, it's the result of individuals taking responsibility for keeping our streets safe."
On the other side of the spectrum, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was named the most unsafe city to drive in with more than one million residents. Claim data shows the average resident gets into an accident every 6.5 years.
Motorists can reduce the likelihood of getting into an accident by limiting distractions and following the speed limit while driving.
