Ford F-Series tops auto sales in U.S. once againPosted On Fri, February 4, 2011
To paraphrase the company's long-used slogan, have Americans driven a Ford lately? According to 2010 sales figures released by the company, yes they have.
Ford ended 2010 by selling more domestically-produced cars than any other make or model, and selling the most popular vehicle overall. The most popular domestic car in 2010 was the Ford Fusion, and for the 34th consecutive year, the top-selling vehicle overall was the Ford F-Series truck.
Last year, Ford moved more than 528,000 F-Series trucks, eclipsing last year's sales figures by just almost 28 percent. The next best-selling vehicle - the Chevrolet Silverado - finished a distant second at 150,000 sold.
Though Ford has received numerous awards in the past, the Fusion was the recipient of at least two awards in 2010, one from Motor Trend, labeling the Fusion it's car of the year, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety called it a top safety pick.
Some of the least expensive cars to insure are domestic models, and Ford models are among them. According to Insure.com, two Ford Escape models were among the 20 least expensive cars to insure in 2010. A vehicle's safety rating is one of the things auto insurance providers consider when assessing premiums.
