Flood protection important, says Allstate

Posted On Tue, March 20, 2012

Insurance company Allstate recently released a report warning consumers of the number one natural disaster in the United States - floods.

The company noted that floods can cost the average homeowner close to $50,000 in damage, according to the report. The spring storm season can wreak havoc on homeowners in high-risk disaster areas, so many need to be on high alert as the weather gets warmer. However, everyone can be hit by a natural disaster.

"Unfortunately, floods can happen anywhere, even in low risk flood zones," said Mark Green, senior vice president for Allstate. "But there are a few simple things property owners can do to help prepare and protect their home and business. Insurance coverage is critical."

The report stressed that homeowners who are looking for a plan need to do so well in advance, as it could take as much as one month to give a person coverage.

Those who don't have standard home insurance coverage could leave themselves exposed to damage they will have to pay out-of-pocket. In order to lessen this chance, it may be a good plan to look for home insurance quotes. By comparing home insurance rates, a homeowner may find exactly what is needed.
