Final revisions package signed into lawPosted On Wed, March 31, 2010
President Barack Obama signed the final package of revisions to the healthcare reform into law on Tuesday.
Obama signed the bill at Northern Virginia Community College where Jill Biden, wife to Vice President Joe Biden, teaches English. The reforms made to the healthcare legislation include an overhaul to the federal student loan program. Obama sees these changes are major victories that will improves lives for generations.
"Today, we mark an important milestone on the road to health insurance reform and higher education reform," Obama said while at NVCC. "But more broadly, this day affirms our ability to overcome the challenges of our politics and meet the challenges of our time."
The New York Times reports attention will now turn to efforts by Obama's administration to implement the healthcare law, by Democrats to explain the law to constituents and by Republicans to use it as a weapon against Democrats in the November midterm elections with calls to repeal and replace it.
The passage of the healthcare reform law is seen by some as the largest and most controversial piece of legislation to pass in decades.
