Feeling needed at work may improve performance, health

The American Psychological Association recently noted that more than 40 percent of consumers are stressed out at work, and this could hurt their performance.

More than 90 percent of workers who feel valued by their company said they are motivated to do the best work possible, according to the report. However, 46 percent of workers are stressed due to struggling salaries, 41 percent because they don't feel they have any upward mobility and another 37 percent said their hours are too long. An additional 35 percent noted they don't have clear job expectations, which adds stress.

"The business world is in the midst of a sea change," said Dr. David Ballard, head of APA's Psychologically Healthy Workplace Program. "Successful organizations have learned that high performance and sustainable results require attention to the relationships among employee, organization, customer and community."

Consumers who feel stressed out constantly may want to take advantage of their doctor's advice on the subject. If they do not have health insurance, it could be a smart idea to compare health insurance quotes to find a plan that works.
