Employers remain uncertain of healthcare reform's potential impactPosted On Mon, January 3, 2011
Employers are bracing themselves for what many believe will be strained budgets thanks to healthcare reform, according to a survey released by the Midwest Business Group on Health.
More than half of all employers surveyed indicated they don't plan to drop health insurance as a benefit, and even more indicate they have restructured offerings in light of reform.
MBGH president and CEO Larry Boress says employers are trying to figure out how to offer a solid health benefits package while containing costs.
"There remains a great deal of uncertainty among employers about how health reform will ultimately impact their efforts to provide health benefits for their employees," says Boress. "However, it's clear that keeping workers healthy is a key focus. In fact, employers are already implementing strategic health management approaches and these are quickly evolving into viable cost reduction strategies."
There are many provisions under healthcare reform that stand to impact employers' bottom lines. Adult children under the age of 26, for example, are allowed to remain on their parent's plan.
