Employers note health insurance rate increasePosted On Mon, October 31, 2011
Beginning in January 2012, many Rochester, New York-area employees may see a significant jump in their health insurance rates, according to the Rochester Business Journal.
The Rochester Business Alliance recently polled business owners in the area and found that despite the increases - which are expected to average 12 percent, but could reach as much as 20 percent for some plans - many of these organizations will still try to help out workers by paying off premiums, the news source reported.
For plans involving just the employee, the average premium amount companies paid was approximately 75 percent. In addition, two-person plans had about two-thirds of premium costs covered, according to the news source. Less than one in five would pay for all of the premiums for their employees, down from 22 percent when employers were polled this year.
Consumers who are interested in obtaining lower rates may want to do so before the new year. But instead of just accepting any plan, it my be a smart idea to shop around and compare multiple health insurance quotes.
