Drunk driving prevalent during Halloween

Posted On Mon, October 31, 2011

A recent report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration showed that drunk driving is a significant issue on the roads during the Halloween holiday.

Nearly half of all fatal crashes between 6 p.m. October 31 and 6 a.m. November 1 in 2009 involved drivers under the influence, the organization noted. These people are classified in this group if they have a blood alcohol level of .08.

"There isn't a Halloween costume clever enough to hide an impaired driver who's made the poor decision to get behind the wheel," said Romell Cooks, regional administrator for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Region 7. "Whether you've had one too many or way too many it is just not worth the risk. Remember, buzzed driving is drunk driving."

Consumers who are concerned about Halloween drivers may want to avoid the roads as much as possible when it comes to the holiday. However, for those who venture out, it may be a smart idea if they ensure their auto insurance is good enough to cover an accident. If not, it may be a smart idea to compare auto insurance quotes, and find one that is sufficient.
