Drowsy drivers can take life into own handsPosted On Thu, August 19, 2010
Jam-packed days and nights full of work can be enough to force people to skimp on their sleep. The lack of sleep can do more than just make a person feel tired, it can impair their judgement.
The National Sleep Foundation says that 19.5 percent of adults are so sleep-deprived that they are actually suffering from "moderate to severe excessive daytime sleepiness."
The ramifications of not getting enough sleep can range from merely being forgetful to a tragic death in a car accident.
"Sleepiness is underestimated in its daily life consequences for the general population, for the shift workers and for the people reducing their amount of sleep for any kind of good reasons," says Stanford Sleep Epidemiology Research Center director Dr. Maurice Ohayon. "It is always a mistake to curtail your sleep."
People who fall asleep behind the wheel are taking their own, or someone else's, life into their hands. It may be wise for someone to invest in life insurance because even if a person is careful with their own actions, it doesn't mean that is the case with everyone else.
