Drivers education programs keep accidents, insurance rates down

Posted On Tue, November 2, 2010

Newly minted drivers can face several obstacles when it comes to getting behind the wheel. Teen motorists frequently end up paying higher auto insurance premiums due to their lack of experience. There are, however, ways young drivers can reduce costs.

Many car insurance companies provide discounts for completing an education class. Furthermore, keeping a clean driving record will also help keep premiums to a minimum.

Automaker Ford and the Governors Highway Safety Association are teaming up to bring the "Ford Driving Skills for Life" program to young motorists in Arizona. The program is designed to educate teens on how to deal with road hazards by receiving instruction from a professional driver.

Ford Fund community relations manager Jim Graham says the company is glad to be offering the program again.

"We are pleased to be returning to Arizona with this life-saving program and provide hands-on training to increase teen's knowledge and abilities behind the wheel," says Graham.

Learning how to properly navigate the roads and be a safe driver can lead to fewer accidents and ultimately lower car insurance premiums. Being a safe motorist is important regardless of age.
