Despite problems, Obama administration stresses healthcare reform law

Posted On Mon, January 30, 2012

A recent announcement from the Obama administration stressed that the healthcare reform law would still survive even if the health insurance requirement was deemed unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court, according to Reuters.

The administration informed the Supreme Court of this information through a brief, noting that each provision can be enacted separately. Currently 26 states, as well as multiple business groups are against the legislation, the news source reported. There will be oral arguments in the Supreme Court in late March. The decision is expected from the court by the end of June.

"Many provisions of the act, focused on controlling costs, improving public health and other objectives, have no connection to insurance coverage at all," Donald Verrilli, U.S. solicitor general wrote in the brief, according to the news source.

Consumers who are worried about the future of the healthcare industry due to the impending changes may want to reexamine their health insurance situation. There could be more affordable health insurance rates available by comparing health insurance quotes online.
