Cyclones could be more damaging in the future

Posted On Mon, February 6, 2012

The Yale School of Forestry and Environmental studies recently released a study showing tropical cyclones may increase in damages by as much as $109 billion by 2100.

The report, which was published in "Nature Climate Change," showed that the United States and China will struggle the most from the damage, with the U.S. receiving $25 billion in damages, and China receiving $15 billion from the climate change. This is approximately three-quarters of the total expected to be influenced by climate change.

"The biggest storms cause most of the damage," said Robert Mendelsohn, the lead economist on the project. "With the present climate, almost 93 percent of tropical cyclone damage is caused by only 10 percent of the storms."

Those who live in areas often hit by cyclones may want to be sure their home insurance plan is sufficient. If there is not proper disaster coverage attached to a person's plan, it may be a good idea to explore various home insurance quotes to find something better suited to their situation.
