Contraception to be covered by health insurancePosted On Tue, January 24, 2012
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently announced that health insurance companies will be able to cover all contraception that is approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
The rule was initially issued in August, and suggested that women would be able to receive these contraceptive items without any excess fee, the report noted. This meant that deductibles, co-pays and any other payment would not be charged. However, not every organization will be forced to comply with the new rules, as some religious organizations will be able to opt out of such options. The program will take effect on August 1.
HHS secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in the release that "This decision was made after very careful consideration, including the important concerns some have raised about religious liberty. I believe this proposal strikes the appropriate balance between respecting religious freedom and increasing access to important preventive services."
For consumers who are not sure if their health insurance plan covers what they need, it may be smart to compare health insurance quotes.
