Consumers preferring fuel-efficient vehiclesPosted On Mon, March 12, 2012
A report from AutoTrader.com found that many consumers were concerned about the increase in gas prices during January and are turning to more fuel-efficient car options.
The national average for gasoline prices was $3.40 during January, according to the report. This was a 30 percent increase from the same point in 2011. In addition, some vehicles gained a significant amount of popularity. In the website's Used Car Insights Report, the Kia Optima jumped 35 spots in consumer interest, while the Chevrolet Cruze increased 19 spots. The Ford Focus also rose significantly, for a total 15-spot gain.
"Car shoppers are heavily influenced by economic factors, and the price of fuel has a strong correlation to the specific vehicles shoppers are considering," said Rick Wainschel, vice president of automotive insights at AutoTrader.com. "With the spike in gas prices in January combined with forecasts for even higher prices, interest in fuel-efficient vehicles will very likely increase in the coming months."
Using a fuel-sipping vehicle may help save money in the long-run. However, it is not the only way to ensure vehicles are affordable. One great option is to compare auto insurance quotes to find a plan that is both sufficient and affordable.
