Consumers don't know how much health insurance costs

Posted On Mon, October 24, 2011

A recent survey from Kelton Research, a global insights organization, found that only 47 percent of employees were able to confirm the amount they pay for their own health insurance premiums.

Approximately one-third of those surveyed can identify the amount of their annual deductible, the release noted. In addition, close to the same amount noted they knew how much they had to pay to cover their dependents. Only one in five consumers knew how much their employer put toward their health plan.

Another four in five consumers specified that they were better fit to pick a health plan for themselves than their employers could, the survey found. But only 36 percent of consumers said they look at their health insurance costs at least once a year.

If a consumer's employer doesn't help with premium costs, it may be prime time to explore other health insurance quotes. There are many plans available and it could benefit a person to explore what is out there, even if they are not ready to make a change.
