Chocolate proves to be heart-healthy

Posted On Wed, August 18, 2010

People who are in good health typically get better life insurance quotes. Those looking to become healthy often get advice leaning towards eating a diet full of foods many people aren't overly fond of - fruits and vegetables.

A new study, though, shows that high-quality chocolate in moderation may help lower one's risk of heart failure.

The American Heart Association says that heart failure is a serious medical condition. While heart failure doesn't mean that the heart has completely stopped working, it does result in the heart being much weaker.

The research shows that consuming only one or two servings of chocolate a day lowered the risk of heart failure by 32 percent.

The study authors remind people that the research results don't mean that it's acceptable to consume numerous portions of chocolate a day.

Northwestern University professor and former American Heart Association Nutrition Committee chair Dr. Linda Van Horn says "this is not an 'eat all you want' take-home message, rather it's that eating a little dark chocolate can be healthful, as long as other adverse behaviors do not occur, such as weight gain or excessive intake of non-nutrient dense 'empty' calories."ADNFCR-2297-ID-19926850-ADNFCR
