Cell phones pose dangers on the road

Posted On Fri, July 2, 2010

Cell phones can be a great tool to help people stay in touch, but they can also prove to be a major distraction when they are used while driving.

Nearly 40 percent of people say they have been hit, or almost hit, by a driver who was using their cell phone, according a study conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of a major insurance agency.

Research shows that it's not just cell phone conversations that are distracting drivers. Cell phone applications are also responsible for taking drivers' eyes and minds off the road.

Over 25 percent of people who downloaded applications to their phone admitted that they used them while driving, according to the Harris Interactive study.

Many people associate texting while driving with teenagers, but that isn't always the case. Almost half of the moms in a Bohan Advertising survey said that they have read or sent a text while driving, even if their kids were in the car.

"Not only are they putting themselves and their families at risk, they are teaching their children a very deadly habit," says Bohan Advertising CEO David Bohan.ADNFCR-2297-ID-19872540-ADNFCR
