Car insurance company has an app geared towards teen driversPosted On Mon, October 25, 2010
Car insurance companies have done a number of things to reach out to teen motorists. Several insurers have developed phone apps geared towards the young motorists. Some aim to educate drivers while others are designed to help accident victims file claims.
State Farm recently updated their Steer Clear Mobile application, which was created to help reduce teen car accidents. Upon completing a program, participants stand to qualify for a 15 percent discount.
Some auto insurance companies offer teens a discount for completing a drivers education course. Premiums can also vary depending on the type of car and location.
State Farm strategic resources vice president Laurette Stiles says the new features enable more consumers to take part in the program.
"Steer Clear promotes fundamental driver safety behaviors that have been identified through research and can help guide those important discussions between young drivers and their parents," says Stiles. "For families who have Android smart phones, we're excited to offer another convenient way to complete the program."
Both Palisades and Esurance have launched their own cell phone applications. Earlier this year, GEICO also unveiled an app which can be used on the iPad.
