Beware of unexpected events when considering health insurance

Posted On Mon, August 30, 2010

When consumers sit down and look over various health insurance quotes they've been given, there is a lot they should take into consideration. In addition to monthly premiums, it would be wise for consumers to look at the cost of certain medications and deductibles.

There are some health care expenses that people can predict. For example, many people plan on going to the doctor at least once a year for a physical and know if they need to take allergy medication.

There are, however, certain circumstances that may arise that people cannot plan for. Sometimes it is unknown events that make people rely on their health insurance the most.

A report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that every 10 seconds a person receives care an an emergency room because of a motor vehicle accident. Sometimes the injuries from a car accident are mild, other times they are severe and can require extensive hospitalization and surgery.

Annually, the CDC says motor vehicle-related injuries cost $58 billion. Motorcycle riders in particular are prone to having an injury that requires medical care. ADNFCR-2297-ID-19932759-ADNFCR
