Back injuries found to be most common injury claim in '09, says Colonial LifePosted On Wed, March 3, 2010
With strains and sprains being somewhat unavoidable to active adults, medical costs or treatments for such injuries can become pricey as they add up for consumers who are not covered by an accident insurance plan.
According a recent tally of all accident insurance claims submitted to Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company in 2009, a back sprain/strain was found to be the most commonly found injury in the claims.
The most common injuries that followed were ankle and knee injuries, which were followed by a fractured arm. An open wound to the finger rounded out the top five most common claims.
"Accidents can happen anytime and anywhere - school playgrounds, summer soccer games, spring gardening and weekend household chores," said Michael Scheetz, assistant vice president for product development at Colonial Life. "People who buy a voluntary accident plan don't have to wait for their health insurance plan to pay before they file a claim on their accident plan. Policyholders who have a covered accident can have the plan's benefits paid directly to them to use any way they want."
Colonial Life added that voluntary accident insurance plans provide coverage for hospital admissions and emergency treatments/urgent care visits. Additionally, insurance would surgery and care for fractures/dislocations as well as rehabilitation and occupational therapy.
