Avoiding claims on Super Bowl SundayPosted On Fri, February 4, 2011
Super Bowl Sunday is one of the biggest days for calorie consumption and party hosting. But as delivery drivers and friends and family converge on hosting homes, the risk of personal injury increases.
With this in mind, Insurance.com reminds party hosters to be as cautious as possible, because accidents that occur there can affect their home insurance premiums.
Speaking to the insurance website, insurance expert Lisa Lobo says common accidents include slip and falls outside, people injuring themselves inside after drinking too much, or an automobile accident where alcohol was involved and the homeowner served it. Lobo says the people involved in these accidents can make insurance claims on the hosting home's insurance provider's dime. To avoid this, Lobo recommends doing what ballparks do - cutting guests off from any further drinks after a certain time or quarter in the game. To protect oneself financially, Lobo recommends increasing one's liability coverage.
Something else that should be protected when hosting a Super Bowl party are one's material possessions. Intentional or unintentional, rowdiness can easily lead to their being broken or destroyed. Home insurance will financially cover these, but only as much as the policy's worth. Thus, before purchasing insurance, one should make as accurate an assessment as possible as to their overall cost.
