Auto insurance tips and advicePosted On Thu, July 28, 2011
Dee Richhart of Williams Insurance in Twentynine Palms, California, recently wrote a number of tips and advice for saving on auto insurance and things to keep in mind when comparing insurance quotes.
The factors that affect a person's premiums are diverse, ranging from driving record and the vehicle driven to age, marital status and region. "Your premium will not be the same as your neighbor's or your friends' or anyone else's," Richhart says. "When you move from city to city, even from Twentynine Palms to Joshua Tree or Yucca Valley, your rates will likely change."
Richhart recommends contacting insurance brokers before making a purchase on a new vehicle. Taking the VIN number of a specific vehicle model and comparing quotes can help a person find the best rates available.
Other things Ricchart makes note of include the fact that four-wheel drive vehicles usually cost more to insure than others. Non-commercial auto insurance likely won't cover a car that's involved in an accident while being used for business. Commercial auto insurance covers vehicles even when they're not being driven for business purposes, providing better coverage for people who use their personal cars for work.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that in 2009, there were 30,797 fatal automobile accidents, a decrease from the 34,172 in 2008 and the 37,435 in 2007.
